Crash Into Me: Twists of Fate Series by Nancy Beaudet immediately introduces the reader to Winnie. Plain and unassuming, she works on cash in a local department store. Winifred has a fatalistic view on life as hers progresses from one dreary day to the next. She deals with people in a dignified manner, despite their often unpleasant demeanour. What else can she do? Life is life and hers is anything but exciting until the one day a customer takes her to her limits of tolerance, and another invades her space in a most unexpected manner. Reeves Cooper was not your average Joe. Well, he was, but he did not think so. He felt he was God’s gift to the opposite sex and occupied his free time seeking and enjoying their company. However, when he sees Winnie in an uncompromising stance, he is smitten. She shirks off his attempts at humour. He is all the more determined to pursue and embarrass her. Definitely a recipe for disaster you might say, but when a storm isolates the store, and Winnie from her home, for once in his life Reeves surprises himself by becoming a good Samaritan. Where this leads gives the reader a decidedly good time, wondering where fate will take each one of them next. I read this book super quickly because it is a very good, humorous read. There are sexual innuendos and profanity, but they seem inoffensive when mixed with the characteristics of these two people. You want to be Winnie’s support as she struggles with boundary and trust issues. You’d also like to slap Reeves into shape and bring him out of his immature thinking, but there is no need, because Nancy Beaudet has them covered. A delightful, very good read. If I could have had one wish, it would be that the story was longer. Recommended adult reading. |
